Rossana Mercado-Rojas (Perú, 1982)

Artist, mother, and cultural worker. She specializes in decolonial practices, public spaces, collective work, and migration. Her writings have been featured in VIS Journal, the “Public Memory Public Art” anthology (Swedish Public Art Agency), Kultwatch, and Mana magazine. Co-founding La Dekoloniala! (Stockholm, 2020) she promotes decolonial knowledge from the Global South, and established the Hysterix collective (Lima, 2012), focusing on multidisciplinary interventions in public spaces. In 2022-2023 these groups co-curated exhibitions in Stockholm commemorating Hysterix’s decade of collective practice. Collaborating with Valeria Montti Colque, she has created “Gunnel & Anita” (BAS Konsthall, 2022) and “Umah: The Fountain of Desire” (Köttinspektionen, 2023).

She holds an MFA in Curating and Art Criticism from Konstfack College, Stockholm, and a BA from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. She furthered her education with a Diploma in Community Feminisms (University of Jujuy, 2022), and Postmaster’s courses in sound art, black studies, and spatial practices at the Royal Institute of Arts, Stockholm.
