Bingeby, 2025
A new mural that I sketched in dialogue with residents of Bingeby was realized with the amazing team consisting of Siri Iversen-Ejve, whose background in painting and pedagogy was key in training the young team, technically, logistically, and artistically. Likewise, Sarai Alvarez Riveros, artist and expert in monumental projects, who has worked with me as a sister muralist since I moved to Sweden, along with a young practicant team: Ward Albashar, Linnea Rudelius, Elimar Nenonen, Tilde Engström, and KajaLii Karlsson, All of them and their expertise, hands-on work, and commitment were crucial to completing this mural within a week.
Through a monumental art commissioned by Gotland Art Museum, in collaboration with the non-profit association Bingan IF, I developed a sketch and concept for the facade of the former Bingebyhallen in Visby,
The design for the mural was inspired by workshops carried out with Bingeby residents. In these workshops, people were encouraged to share their stories, memories, dreams, and visions for the future of the place—material that I then wove into the artwork. For this mural assignment, the preparation required several meetings and dialogues after the workshop in November last year.
The colors and lettering style were informed by my Andean Indigenous heritage from Peru, where
bright and neon tones (“chicha art”) carry deep symbolic meaning. These colors embody migration
histories and cultural expressions from the Andes to the cities—they are roots and branches that
allow me to transform spaces in dialogue with my current environment, in a playful form of
resistance and exchange. The beauty of public art is that it starts its own life in dialogue with the community it inhabits. Neighbors and media have noted and praised us for how the building has transformed through color and vivacity.
The project was organized by Gotland Art Museum, part of Gotlands Museum, and was carried out
in collaboration with Bingan IF, the Culture Unit of Region Gotland, Gotlandshem, Gotland
Skateboarding Association, and Hemsö Fastigheter.
